The ADSC  originally formed 25 years ago  by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), the Australian Association of Surgeons (AAS), the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) and the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA).

The ADSC was involved in the establishment of standards and the accreditation of day surgery facilities. One of the many achievements was the publication of “Day Surgery in Australia: Report and Recommendations of the Australian Day Surgery Council” (2004). The Council has jointly organised biannual day surgery conferences. As a prominent member of the International Association of Ambulatory Surgery (IAAS), the Council  hosted the 8th International Association of Ambulatory Surgery Congress in Brisbane in 2009.

It was however due to the vision of one man, Lindsay Roberts that has enabled the ADSC to survive from the very begining of day surgery till now

Dr Roberts was the major driver in the formation and establishment of high quality day surgery facilities across Australia.
